Our Journey from Homebrewers to Soap Makers
For years Jamie battled very adverse skin reactions from using "production" soaps. We tried everything on the market and even expensive and prescription soap products without satisfaction. Desperate to find a soap that was both gentle on the skin and great for cleaning, we took a soap making course. We learned from an excellent natural soap producer how to balance all the necessary elements and resolve his skin sensitivity issues. After a few years of experimenting with recipes and making too much soap for our personal consumption, we expanded our soap making operation to supply friends and family with everyday soaps and special gift packages for birthdays & stocking stuffers.
As avid homebrewers we devised a method to incorporate our brewing byproducts (spent grains & spent hops) and after a few homebrews we decided to turn homebrewed soap-making into a bonafied business. Working with excellent crafts-people (brysonsstuff.com, craftbeerd.com, thehomebrewersd.com) and friends to come up with the most eco-friendly product and packaging possible.
Each BeerCanSoap is handcrafted using only the best ingredients. Yes, a lot of people make this "only the best" claim, but in our case we're making homebrewed beers that require the best ingredients, then repurposing the brewing byproducts to produce these excellent, all natural soaps!
We approached soap making in the same way we tackled homebrewing; lots of reading and experimentation, and plenty of feedback from friends. Each soap recipe contains a perfect balance of coconut oil (for lathering), palm oil (for hardening) and olive oil (for skin moisturizing). Then we mix in spent hops for a gentle exfoliant, and spent grains for a slightly more abrasive texture. More information on our Exfoliant by Volume (%EBV).
We hope you enjoy getting clean as much as you did getting dirty!
